I'm a freelance journalist based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Originally from Poland, for the past several years I have been covering politics and societies across the post-Soviet space, South Asia and the Middle East. You can read my work in Al Jazeera English, the Guardian, Eurasianet, the Diplomat and many other English and Polish language media.
Currently, I focus on the changes taking place in Uzbekistan since coming to power of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the challenges facing Uzbek society in transition. My book on Uzbekistan will be published by the Polish Wydawnictwo Czarne in 2021.
Apart from Uzbekistan, I regularly work in Afghanistan, where I am mostly interested in underreported social and environmental issues as well as the Islamic State of the Khorasan Province. My third area of interest is ultra-right movements in Central and Eastern Europe. Whenever I can, I return to Lebanon, my favourite place in the Middle East, where I spent several months before moving to Uzbekistan.
Earlier, I worked as an editor with the New Eastern Europe magazine and reported from various countries across the post-Soviet space. In my previous life, I worked as a support worker with migrant communities and ethnic minorities in Dublin, Ireland, and Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
I also worked as an editor with E-International Relations, where I co-edited two books on the Ukraine crisis: Ukraine and Russia: People, Politics, Propaganda and Perspectives (2015) and Migration and the Ukraine Crisis: A Two-Country Perspective (2017).
I am currently a fellow with the Coalition for Women in Journalism. In the past, I was a stipendist of the 'Diversity and Resilience' programme by the Thomson Reuters Foundation and a grantee of Lviv Media Forum. I have a double MA degree in International Relation from the University of Kent (UK) and the Higher School of Economics (Russia) and a BA from the University of Westminster.
